Don’t Fry Day Social Media Messages

The National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention has designated the Friday before Memorial Day as “Don’t Fry Day” to encourage everyone to practice small steps to sun safety as they head outdoors to kick off the summer season.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and 90% of skin cancers are preventable. Take small steps to protect your skin and prevent skin cancer: apply sunscreen, wear protective clothing, stay out of the sun during peak hours, and seek shade when you are outside.

Purpose of the 2024 Don’t Fry Day toolkit:

The #DontFryDay toolkit offers a wide variety of images and sample messages that can be used on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other platforms that you or your organization use regularly. The toolkit will help you raise awareness of the importance of sun safety, on Don’t Fry Day and throughout the year.

How to Use this Toolkit:

  • Copy and paste the suggested social media posts, or customize your own posts to share the content.
  • Add the #DontFryDay hashtag to your social media posts, and engage with us via your personal or organizational accounts.
  • Follow the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and share their content; be sure to use the #DontFryDay hashtag!
  • Upload a photo to Instagram and caption it with one of the suggested captions. NOTE: Instagram does not support hyperlinks in captions. You can also add #DontFryDay stickers to your Insta stories!
  • Remember that Don’t Fry Day may officially only come around once a year, but the need for sun safety is yearlong!

When to Use the Toolkit:

This year #DontFryDay will take place on May 24. We encourage you to begin using elements from the #DontFryDay toolkit beginning May 1 to build up to May 24 (when we hope to achieve full surround sound).

In addition, all elements of the #DontFryDay toolkit are free to use throughout the rest of the year.
